For years, I’ve kept a journal of motivational quotes by Jim Rohn on my desk.
Here are my favorite 25.
If you don’t like how things are, change it! You’re not a tree.
Success is not so much what we have as it is what we are.
Time is our most valuable asset, yet we tend to waste it, kill it, and spend it rather than invest it.
Formal education will make you a living. Self education will make you a fortune.
Discipline is the foundation upon which all success is built. Lack of discipline inevitably leads to failure.
Don’t join an easy crowd. You won’t grow. Go where the expectations and the demands to perform are high.
Success is not to be pursued; it is to be attracted by the person we become.
The formula for disaster is: Could + Should + Won’t
Failure is not a single, cataclysmic event. You don’t fail overnight. Instead, failure is a few errors in judgement, repeated every day.
One of the reasons why many people don’t have what they want is neglect.
You cannot succeed by yourself. It’s hard to find a rich hermit.
We get paid to bring value to the marketplace. It takes time to bring value to the marketplace, but we get paid for the value, not for the time.
Where you start in the marketplace is not where you have to stay.
I used to say, ‘ I sure hope things will change.’ Then I learned that the only way things are going to change for me is when I change.
There are three things to leave behind: your photographs, your library, and your personal journals. These things are certainly going to be more valuable to future generations than your furniture.
Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.
The book you don’t read won’t help.
Don’t say ‘If I could, I would.’ Say, “If I can, I will.”
We generally change ourselves for one of two reasons: inspiration or desperation.
Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day; while failure is simply a few errors in judgement, repeated every day. It is the accumulative weight of our disciplines and our judgments that leads us to either fortune or failure.
Make rest a necessity, not an objective.
The soil says, “Don’t bring me your need. Bring me your seed.”
There are two ways to face the future. One way is with apprehension; the other is with anticipation.
You must be good at one of two things: planting in the sprint or begging in the fall.
When you know what you want, and you want it badly enough, you’ll find a way to get it.
Jim Rohn’s books and audios have made a huge difference in my life. I remember listening to his tapes (yeah, that was a long time ago), when I was 19. It shaped my thinking and set me on a path that was much different than what I had in mind.
Although Jim Rohn is no longer around, his wisdom and lifetime of work is still making a huge difference in the lives of millions.
