6 “MUSTS” Of Successful Internet Marketing

At this point, I’ve been around internet marketing for 10 years. And here’s one of the BIGGEST problems with internet marketing, and marketing in general, but more so online.


information overloadNot so long ago (or at least it seems that way) there was little information available, or I should say not as easily accessible as it is today. But now, you’re just a click of a button away from just about any piece of information on any topic you want. To a point of overwhelm.

Especially if you’re starting out online, there are just so many ways to do it.

And if you start digging for information on how to market your business on the internet or how to make money online in general, it seems like everyone’s got the magic pill.

I know that’s how I felt for years, as more and more courses were popping up all over the web.

The reality is…

… there’s NO ONE WAY TO DO IT.

There are basic, fundamental marketing principles which work and which you should employ in your business (no matter what business you have)…

… but there is definitely much more than one way to get there.

driving to floridaFor the last couple of years, I’ve been taking my family on a road trip to Florida.

This is a loooong 20+ hour drive, and I don’t do it because I enjoy driving for 2 days.

But we stay there for half the summer, and I need a car there. And with 3 kids we take lots of stuff, because we basically live there for awhile.

Anyways, the first time I drove, even though I had a GPS, I’m just the type of person who actually likes to KNOW where I’m going and not rely on a little thing that tells me to go right, left, etc…

GPS is great, but I still need to know.

At first it seemed like a straight shot down I-75 would get me there, but when I looked at the directions online I got 3 different routes.

I could take I-75 through Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and into Florida.

I could go East on I-80 and go through Ohio and Pennsylvania (not sure why that would be better though).

I could also go East in Tennessee and go through North and South Carolina.

Point is there’s more than one way to get to your destination, and there’s no right or wrong there.

And there’s more than one way to get to your destination with marketing.

There’s blogging, paid traffic, videos, Facebook, banners, email ads, etc…

However, regardless of the strategy you choose to market your business, the fundamentals will never change.

I’ve spent a fortune on educating myself about internet marketing and advertising.

And at the end of the day, it all comes down to a few very important building blocks.

Here they go…

Fundamentals For Successful Internet Marketing

Here are the basic building blocks you need to create a thriving online marketing business.

Basic Building Block #1

The first thing you need to do is pick a good NICHE, with proven buyers of the products or services you’d like to sell.

You need to choose a market that has enough people in it, who are interested to pay for solutions (your product) to their problems.

The big 3 are:
Making Money

But these are mega markets, that have many, many different sub-niches within them.

For example, Making Money can be:

– Business Opportunities
– Consulting/Solutions for Business Owners
– Financial Planning Solutions
– Credit Repair
– Internet Marketing
– How To Invest In Real Estate

And dozens more niches.

You need to pick one that you can get excited about promoting.

Basic Building Block #2

You need a GOOD PRODUCT or service. This is kind of obvious, but I must say, there is a LOT of crap sold on these interwebs.

If you’re going to create a successful internet marketing business, you really need to think about your customer and what problems does your product solve.

Whether it’s an ebook on losing weight, a course on buying commercial real estate, or video training on creating blogs… make sure your product is what people want AND provides a solution to a problem they want to solve.

And even if you don’t have a product, or not sure how to create one, you can sign up as an affiliate with other product owners, and promote their products for a % of the sale.

Every single market, has good products with affiliate programs you can get started with.

Basic Building Block #3

Next you need a page that will sell your product. And that page needs a SALES-LETTER or video with a good offer. And you need to make sure it converts. In other words, some of the people who visit that page will end up buying the product.

Your sales page is like a virtual sales person, that does a presentation of how the customer will benefit from your product.

If you find a good product, and it’s not selling, a revamp of the sales page will often get the job done.

This is actually one of the advantages of becoming an affiliate for others, in that you don’t have to create your own sales pages. If you pick the right affiliate program, they should already have high-converting sales pages ready for you to promote.

Basic Building Block #4

You need a LIST of highly targeted potential prospects that have an interest in your offer.

You see, no matter what you sell, not everyone is going to be interested. And if you try to market your product to everybody, you’ll go broke. So the solution is to identify the most likely to buy potential customers, and start building a list so that you can market to them. This will allow you to spend your advertising dollars wisely.

Now to accomplish this and build a list, what you need is…

Basic Building Block #5

A LANDING PAGE that converts your website visitors into leads, and adds them to your email list.

Basic Building Block #6

Once you have all these components in place, now you need to get targeted TRAFFIC to your landing page.

Which means finding the best places to advertise your website, where your ideal target audience is.

There’s Google, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Banners, Emails, Blogging, and a number of other strategies you can use to get quality visitors to your website.

So there you have it.

These are the 6 fundamentals which will NEVER change.

It all starts with finding the RIGHT NICHE though.

HOW you do all this can be done lots of ways.

But you can’t deviate from the formula.

You have to be in a good, proven niche, with people who have shown in the past that they’re willing to spend money on what you’re offering.

You can buy traffic or do SEO, or JV (joint venture) with others, but you can’t build a business without traffic.

You can do short form opt-ins, long-form…

You can give away a report, a video, an audio, some freebie, etc… but you MUST have some way to capture the names.

Without a list, you don’t have a business. Period.

You can do a sales video, a full sales letter, a webinar, but you must have a sales process with a good offer to make sales.

You must have a good product.

It can be an affiliate product, or your own… physical, digital, or some kind of a service, but you need a good product people want.

There a many ways to accomplish any one of these 6 parts and that’s where the confusion comes from.

Someone promises a course on List-Building riches, and people jump all over it.

But that’s just ONE of the six parts you need. Without picking the right niche, having a good offer and a converting sales page what’s the point of knowing how to build a list?

Same with traffic. People in the internet marketing space drool all over the latest new traffic generation course. But unless you have all the other components in place, what are you going to do with all this traffic?

Stick to the formula, see where you need help with… which parts of the process do you need to improve on, or possibly try a different way of accomplishing and now well on your way to having a solid online machine.
